Rechargeable Batteries AA

A decade ago, your ordinary AA battery would have sufficed for heavy duty electronic gadgets like the film camera, tape recorder, walkmans, and even some toys. However, with the advancement of technology, you find that the voltage produced by the ordinary AA battery is no longer enough. The new devices, like sophisticated digital cameras, high-tech recorders, and battery-powered MP3 players have more parts to be powered, thus they consume more energy.

It is a good thing that rechargeable batteries AA have been developed. This saves you a few bucks in every use. Instead of going for a replacement battery every time you need to power up your gadget, all you have to do is simply plug in the charger along with the AA rechargeable batteries and Viola! You’re good for another use of your gadget.

There are two kinds of rechargeable AA batteries.

  • First is the Nickel-metal Hydride or the NiMH. It has a capacity of 1,300 to 2,900 mAh.
  • The other kind is the Nickel-cadmium or the NiCd (sometimes NiCad). This kind has a lower capacity of 500 to 1,100 mAh.

The AA rechargeable battery is good for the most part, except that it produces a lower voltage power of 1.2V. Non-rechargeable AA batteries produce about 1.5V of energy which is suitable for use in most cases. The difference can pose a problem with some devices that may need high voltage to work properly.

One issue that faces rechargeable battery users is self-discharge. This is when a battery loses its energy storage capacity after being stored for a certain period. Most rechargeable AA batteries lose 20% of full charge when stored for 60 days.

There are improved battery options that have low self-discharge, losing only 8% of full charge after 60 days. There are even some brands of rechargeable batteries AA that claim of being able to maintain 85% of full charge even after 1 year of storage.

There are efforts to create new and improved AA rechargeable battery models. Some manufacturers have developed Li-ion rechargeable batteries. These batteries produce 3.6V of energy. This may sound good but the thing is most older devices are incompatible with this kind of battery.

AA Rechargeable Batteries – Purchase Considerations

Buying batteries online is pretty easy. There isn’t really too much to remember when buying them off the internet.

  • The first and most important thing to remember when buying AA rechargeable batteries online is that cost increases with capacity. The higher the mAh, the higher the price you pay for the batteries.
  • Next is packaging. You can choose to buy rechargeable AA batteries in a pack of four or a pack of eight. Another thing to remember is that some batteries come pre-charged and ready to use. You can choose to buy these or you can also go for uncharged batteries.
  • Lastly, make sure that you are buying genuine batteries (Duracell, Energizer, etc) and not inferior fakes. Fake batteries give you less quality for the amount you paid and, not to mention, they damage your electronic devices.

When you have completely and fully used your AA rechargeable batteries, be sure to dispose of them properly. After all, they contain chemicals that can seep into the soil and into the ground water. This can cause poisoning to human beings and animals.

The development of rechargeable batteries AA has been of great service to mankind. Instead of buying tons of non-rechargeable batteries, we can now use several batteries for a year or more.
